Grenade Hurled at Kosovo Hall before Serb Premier's Visit

PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — A hand grenade was hurled overnight at a sports hall in Kosovo that was to host a meeting with Serbia's visiting prime minister, Kosovo police said Sunday.

Police spokesman Besim Hoti said the 3 a.m. explosion in Zubin Potok, 56 kilometers (35 miles) north of the capital, Pristina, caused no injuries but damaged a car. He said the investigation was ongoing and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic's trip to Kosovo's Serb minority would continue.

Vucic is seeking support ahead of Serbia's April 24 parliamentary election, where his Serbian Progressive Party's governing coalition is being challenged by rising support for right-wing parties. Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 but Serbs in Kosovo can still vote in the Serbian election.

Upon arriving in Kosovo, Vucic said Sunday that three people threw a hand grenade and then fired from an automatic rifle while workers inside the hall were putting up the stage. He did not say where he got his information.

"Shoot at me if you want to, why shoot at people who are innocent?" Vucic asked.

Marko Djuric, the Serbian government official dealing with Kosovo, described the incident as a "terrorist act" but Hoti said the prosecutor disagreed, registering it as a "general threat."
