Greek Air Traffic Controllers: 4 Days of Strikes Next Week

Wednesday, 05 October 2016 02:36 PM EDT

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Four days of strikes called by Greek air traffic controllers next week are expected to disrupt flights across and into the country.

The 24-hour strikes are planned for Oct.9, 10th, 12th and 13th — Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The air traffic controllers' union said Wednesday it's protesting a new draft bill that reorganizes Greece's civil aviation authorities.

The proposed reforms, which have been demanded by Greece's international bailout creditors, are expected to be approved in parliament later this week.

The reforms are one of a handful of outstanding actions Greece's left-led government must do to receive a 2.8 billion-euro ($3.1 billion) rescue loan installment from its European partners.

The country has relied on multibillion-euro bailouts since it nearly went bankrupt in 2010.
