PARIS (AP) — Police say an armed man has robbed the famed Parisian jeweler Chopard, making off with gems worth around 1 million euros ($1.1 million).
Friday's robbery took place across the street from the Elysee palace, which is heavily guarded around the clock.
Police say no one was injured in the robbery.
Paris, with a wealth of fine jewelry stores catering to tourists and locals alike, is routinely struck by armed robbers. But thefts so close to the presidential palace — in one of the city's ritziest neighborhoods — are relatively rare.
