French Economy Weakened by Attacks, Weather at End of 2015

Friday, 29 January 2016 08:24 AM EST

PARIS (AP) — France's economy grew by a weak 1.1 percent in 2015, as its last quarter was weighed down by the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris and an unseasonably warm winter.

The national economic statistics agency on Friday released the annual figures, which saw just 0.2 percent growth in the final quarter of 2015 compared with the previous three months. There was a marked 0.9 percent decrease in household spending during the period.

Unemployment has hovered around 10 percent since 2009 in France, and the Socialist government has repeatedly promised to increase growth and get more people working by easing labor rules and taxes.
