UK Trio Convicted of Plotting Attack on Soldiers, Police

LONDON (AP) — A British jury has convicted three men who dubbed themselves the "Three Musketeers" of trying to make a pipe bomb and planning an attack inspired by Islamic extremism.

Jurors at London's Central Criminal Court on Wednesday found Naweed Ali, Khobaib Hussain and Mohibur Rahman guilty of preparing terrorist acts, after a trial that was partly held in secret for national security reasons.

The jury is still deliberating on a fourth defendant, Tahir Aziz.

The men were arrested last year after weapons were found in Ali's car, including a partially constructed pipe bomb and a meat cleaver with the word "kaffir" — infidel in Arabic — scratched onto the blade. Prosecutors say the men intended to attack police or military targets.

The defendants, from central England, denied the charges.
