LONDON (AP) — Kit Harington has gone from blood and gore in "Game of Thrones" to blood and gore in an English Elizabethan drama.
The actor, who played Jon Snow in HBO's fantasy series, plays the title role in a West End production of Christopher Marlowe's "Dr. Faustus."
Director Jamie Lloyd and playwright Colin Teevan have modernized sections of Marlowe's play about a scholar who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for worldly power and glory.
The production, which opened Monday, has plenty of crossover appeal for "Thrones" fans, from scenes of sex, violence and debauchery to long stretches featuring Harington clad only in his underpants.
Harington says he is "very nervous" about returning to stage, but critics generally praised him Tuesday, with the Evening Standard welcoming his "mercurial physicality."
