More than three-quarters of college-age students believe lawmakers should focus on decreasing government spending, while almost 60 percent say they should focus on decreasing taxes, a new poll has found.
The survey, released by
Young America's Foundation and conducted by the polling company, inc., also showed that half of respondents think the federal government is mostly hurting economic recovery. Another 61 percent of those surveyed feel government should not take an active role in their day-to-day lives.

Meanwhile, 66 percent of the students polled had a positive opinion of entrepreneurship, 44 believe in free markets, and 42 percent say the federal government is an opponent rather than a partner in the pursuit of the American Dream.
"If history teaches us anything, a lower tax rate, less spending, and less regulation is the recipe for success," said Adam Tragone, director of external relations for Young America's Foundation.
"Right now, our government seems content with the unemployment rate hovering around 8% and a drastically reduced work force. That's unsustainable and unacceptable," he added.
The poll also showed that six-in-ten young people are unhappy with the way lawmakers represent young people. And according to those surveyed, 21 percent say the economy is the most important issue facing the country, while 16 percent cite education and another 14 percent say the national debt is most pressing.
The poll did not state how many people were surveyed or when it was conducted.
