Fresh off the March for Our Lives demonstrations on Saturday, 40 student activists in Wisconsin started off on a four-day, 50-mile march from Madison to House Speaker Paul Ryan's hometown of Janesville to call for stricter gun control laws, CNN reported.

Students at a Milwaukee suburban high school came up with the idea for "March for Our Lives: 50 Miles More" as they brainstormed for ways to continue keeping the issue of gun control in the headlines following the massive demonstrations on Saturday.

"I think we have a unique opportunity because the speaker of the House is the most important member of the House, and he's from Wisconsin," 17-year-old Brendan Fardella, one of the march organizers, told CNN. "This is a unique way to catch his attention and call him out for his constant burying of possible gun legislation that would save hundreds of lives every day in this country."

The demonstrators listed their demands on their website, including for Congress to ban military-style weapons and accessories that transform guns from semi-automatic to automatic, impose a four-day waiting period for all gun sales, require background checks on all firearm buyers and raise the legal age to purchase to 21.

The students participating in the march include those in high school, middle school and even some elementary school children. The route of the march was planned out with adult advisers, and includes walking about 13 miles a day, with a scheduled arrival in Janesville on March 28.

Students, along with parent chaperones, will sleep in school gymnasiums during the march, according to Channel3000.com.

The students participating in the march are on spring break, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

For each mile of the march, they will honor a victim of gun violence.

"Kids may be only 25 percent of the nation's population, but we are 100 percent of the future, and we are committed to making that future a safe one for every single person in this country," Katie Eder, one of the participants in the march, told the State Journal.
