Wisconsin Republicans will vote next month on whether to support the Badger State's right to secede from the United States.
It's a sticky issue that Gov. Scott Walker is distancing himself from.
The
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the state GOP's Resolutions Committee voted in favor of a proposal supporting legislation upholding Wisconsin's right to secede "under extreme circumstances.
The newspaper says top Republicans hoped to kill the proposal at a meeting earlier this month, but instead, a few changes were made, and it was adopted.
The proposal will be formally voted on by delegates at the state GOP state convention next month.
Walker said of the resolution: "I don't think that one aligns with where most Republican officials are in the state of Wisconsin — certainly not with me."
