The Westboro Baptist Church — the hate-infused Kansas parish infamous for its protests against gays with signs such as "God Hates Fags" — is now targeting the wildly popular Pokémon Go video game.
In a
tweet, the church calls on users of the game to "repent or perish."
Pokémon Go, which is now one of the top apps in the world, lets players using their smart phones battle, capture and train virtual Pokémon who appear throughout the real world.
But members of Westboro lashed out at the family-friendly game after a member noticed that a player had listed the church's gym where Pokémon trainers can claim as their own,
The Independent reports.
The newspaper said a trainer called "Pinknose" claimed the church for a pink "clefairy" named LoveisLove, an apparent slap at church members' vitriol surrounding the LGBT movement.
The church responded in a tweet by using images from Pokémon to spread its anti-gay ideology.
