Scam PACs Continue to Exploit West’s Name

By    |   Friday, 19 October 2012 10:47 AM EDT

The rogue PACs that are using Florida GOP Rep. Allen West’s name to raise money and then keeping almost all of it for themselves are continuing unabated, despite a Politico expose on the practice earlier this week.

The news service now cites two scam PACs that sent out e-mails including West’s name Thursday.

One is Conservative Strikeforce, which has raked in $4.5 million this election cycle but has spent only $3,700 on causes and candidates.

Its email reads:

“Let me be blunt. Unless the conservative grass-roots rallies to Congressman Allen West’s side right now, this American hero will lose his fight for reelection. A recent Democratic poll has West losing by nine points. A recent REPUBLICAN poll has him losing to liberal Patrick Murphy by one.

‘Please make an urgent contribution of $25, $35, $50, $100, $250 or more to help Conservative Strike Force PAC’s emergency campaign to reelect Allen West. We need to pour phone calls and mail pieces into his district right away. We have only a few weeks to save Allen West.”

The other rogue PAC is One Nation PAC, which has raised just under $58,000 and spent $250 on causes and candidates.

Here is its email:

“Since I last wrote to you about Allen West, the race has completely changed. The latest polls show this Tea Party hero trailing his liberal opponent by as much as 9 percentage points! With 19 days until the election, it's time to buckle down and defend one of the greatest advocates for our values in all of Washington.

“That's why every dollar you donate to One Nation PAC today will go directly to the independent expenditure we're planning on Allen West's behalf.”

The feisty Florida freshman apparently doesn’t need the assistance of these PACs in any case. A poll released last week by St.PetePolls.org found him leading Democratic opponent Patrick Murphy 52.6 percent to 40.6 percent.
