Allen West Hearing on Election Results Set for Friday

By    |   Thursday, 08 November 2012 05:25 PM EST

A request by GOP Rep. Allen West for an injunction against the supervisor of elections in Palm Beach County, Fla. will be heard on Friday.

West is challenging results that show that he is trailing Democrat Patrick Murphy by only 11 votes in the county, 61,946 to 61,957, with all precincts reporting, local station WPTV reports.

Members of West’s team also filed to seek an injunction in circuit court in St. Lucie County on Thursday afternoon.

But Gertrude Walker, the St. Lucie County supervisor of elections, said earlier that afternoon that West had not filed paperwork regarding an injunction there and had not requested a hearing before the county’s canvassing board.

The board was to meet later Thursday to "go over every aspect of Tuesday’s election," including verification of about 300 ballots that were not read at the polls and 691 provisional ballots, WPTV reports.

Tim Edson, West campaign manager, said a representative would attend the canvassing board meeting.

Earlier Thursday, West told Fox News Radio that he just wanted to ensure that the process was fair.

“I’ve been in combat, so this is not a stressful situation for me,” West said.

“I’m not entitled to anything,” he added. “We want to make sure we have a fair electoral process for the constituents of Congressional District 18.”

In the interview, West charged that voting irregularities had occurred in St. Lucie County.

"We want to make sure that there's a fair and open electoral process," West said. "There are some violations of Florida state law, and I think it's important that be brought to the attention of the constituents."

West added, hinting at Walker, "There are some things that people have to answer for."

Edson said military and provisional ballots still needed to be counted in West Palm Beach and St. Lucie Counties. Military ballots can be accepted until Nov. 12.

Murphy declared himself the District 18 winner on Election Night, which MSNBC confirmed.
