Three Maryland teens were arrested Monday after allegedly attacking a gay couple over the weekend, NBC News reports.
Karl Craven wrote on a GoFundMe page that his boyfriend Braden Brecht early Sunday morning was assaulted by a large group of teens who started hitting him after calling him homophobic slurs.
"He was leaning against me and a few guys started yelling 'faggot' at him and started to swing at him," Craven wrote. "It was all a quick blur but next thing you know there was literally a mob of 15 guys beating him. They came out of nowhere, and I was powerless to stop them, all I could do was jump on him to try to protect him and scream help."
Craven said Brecht did not have insurance and could not afford the ER and tooth repair bills.
"Any help would be greatly appreciated," he wrote.
The pair have raised $10,765 so far.
Alaina Gertz, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police Department, told NBC that case was still being investigated and "sexual orientation is being investigated as a motivation."
The three suspects, two of them juveniles and 19-year-old Marcus Britt, were charged with robbery by force and violence. All are from Fort Washington, Maryland.
