Two days after protesters had the Secret Service spooked to the point that President Donald Trump was taken to the White House bunker for safety, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser instituted a curfew in the city for Sunday night and activated the National Guard.
Bowser's office tweeted the news Sunday evening, saying the curfew will begin at 11 p.m. amid protests in response to a police officer killing a black man in Minneapolis a week ago.
"Mayor Bowser is ordering a citywide curfew for the District of Columbia from 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1. She has also activated the DC National Guard to support the Metropolitan Police Department," the tweet reads.
On Saturday, Trump accused Bowser of not allowing the Metropolitan Police Department to send officers to help fortify the White House.
"On the bad side, the D.C. Mayor, @MurielBowser, who is always looking for money & help, wouldn't let the D.C. Police get involved. 'Not their job.' Nice!" he wrote.
Other cities have ordered curfews as well, but notably not on the list is New York City after its Mayor Bill de Blasio said he would not institute one.
