In NYC, Obama Praises Times Square Bomb Responders

Thursday, 13 May 2010 06:38 PM EDT

President Barack Obama is thanking the New York City police officers who responded to the May 1 attempted bombing of Times Square.

White House spokesman Bill Burton says Obama told the officers Thursday that the city's anti-terrorism efforts are a model for the rest of the country.

A Pakistani-born U.S. citizen is accused of trying to detonate a bomb-laden vehicle in Times Square.

Obama is in New York for a Democratic congressional fundraiser. He traveled to Buffalo earlier in the day to discuss the economy.
