Lawyers have proposed an increased settlement of $625 million to $712.5 million for ground zero workers suing New York City over their exposure to toxic dust from the World Trade Center.
Lawyers representing about 10,000 workers went before a federal judge Thursday. They presented a possible deal to revise a settlement the judge originally rejected.
U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein did not immediately rule on the proposal.
The two sides have been renegotiating the package for nearly three months.
The original settlement was valued at $575 million to $657 million. In March, Hellerstein criticized it as too rich for the lawyers and too stingy for the most seriously ill responders.
