Longtime Univision personality Rodner Figueroa has been fired for remarks he made on-air about first lady Michelle Obama.
Figueroa said Obama looked like she was part of the cast of 'Planet of the Apes' in a critique of her makeup and fashion choices. He made the comments Wednesday on Univision's daytime entertainment gossip show "El Gordo y La Flaca."
In a statement Univision said Figueroa, a 17-year network vet, was fired immediately. The Spanish-language giant said Figueroa's remarks were "completely reprehensible and in no way reflect Univision's values or views."
Univision chairman Haim Saban is a major contributor to the Democratic party who is well known to the Obama administration. According to CNN, Figueroa issued a statement Thursday asserting that he was fired after the network received a complaint from the first lady's office.
