President Barack Obama has hurt military readiness with budget cuts and is calling for more over and above the budget deal that was reached, Ohio Rep. Michael Turner says.
Obama "has really hollowed out our military," said Turner, the senior House Armed Services Committee member, Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable"
on AM 970 in New York.
"We've seen our military readiness, the capabilities of our military, decline significantly," he said. "The threats are increasing if we look to both Iran and North Korea, not just in their pursuit of nuclear weapons, but also their missile technology, where they are looking to be able to reach the United States."
"So, once again," he told host John Catsimatidis, "Republicans are going to have to rise to the challenge to force the president to reinvest back in our national security so we don't hand the next president a military that's just not capable."
Turner is supporting John Kasich, the GOP governor of his own state, for president, saying he is able to appeal to both Republicans and Democrats in a swing state like Ohio.
