Washington Examiner to Trump: Get Off Twitter

President Donald Trump should stop posting comments on Twitter, according to an editorial in the Washington Examiner.

"Many of us, on one or more occasions, have harmed ourselves with a tweet. But most of us are not the president," the editorial read.

"Some of his supporters revel in the howls these tweets produce from news media and other critics. This trollish appreciation misses the main consequence, that Trump imperils his own agenda, much of which we agree with, when he tweets from the hip."

The Examiner cited the president's tweets in which he said his executive order on vetting U.S. visitors is a "travel ban," although his administration had said it was not.

"Calling it a ban might undermine the legal defense of the order," the Examiner said.

The editorial also criticized Trump for his attack on London Mayor Sadiq Khan after the terror attack on London Bridge Saturday night.

"Imagine if the British prime minister had tweeted her disapproval of the mayor of New York on the day after 9/11. It would not have happened, and nor should Trump's irruption into the aftermath of the London terror attacks," the Examiner noted.

"The problem with these tweets isn't that they irritate his enemies, but that they empower them," and the president must consider whether he is more interested in helping his agenda succeed or "blasting off his thoughts to the world in utterly ungoverned fashion," the Examiner said.
