Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was the target of barbs, jokes and outright attacks at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, reports the Daily Mail.

Host Jimmy Kimmel starting things off during his opening monologue by asking, "If it wasn't for television, would Donald Trump be running for president?"

"No, he would be at home right now quietly rubbing up against his wife Malaria while she pretends to be asleep."

Kimmel then singled out Mark Burnett, creator of Trump's former reality show "The Apprentice," saying "Thanks to Mark Burnett, we don't have to watch reality shows anymore because we're living in one."

He also said that Burnett will be the first over "the wall" if Trump wins.

During her acceptance speech, "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus apologized for the political climate, saying her show may be to blame. She also said the show has "torn down the wall between comedy and politics" before joking that she'd "rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it."

"Our show started out as political satire but now it feels like a sober documentary," Louise-Dreyfus said.

Jill Soloway, creator of the show "Transparent" launched the event's most direct attack on Trump, calling him a "monster."

"He's a complete dangerous monster," she said. "Any moment I have to call out Donald Trump as the inheritor to Hitler, I will."

Her show recently addressed Nazi Germany and what it calls the "other-izing" of groups of people.

"Right now, Donald Trump is doing the same thing. He is 'other-izing' people. He calls people pigs if they don't look like beauty pageant contestants.

"He blames Muslims and Mexicans for our problems. He makes fun of disabled people. This is 'other-izing' with a capital O.

"It has been used in our history before to start and win wars," Soloway said.

Aziz Ansari, creator of the show "Master of None" joked about voting for Trump and wanting people of color "kicked out."

"Look, it's an election year and after careful consideration I decided I'm going with Trump, which is why I'm also recommending we get rid of all Muslim and Hispanic nominees from the ceremony immediately."

"Wow, this would be so much easier if we were at the Oscars," he said.

"Mom, dad, I know I just thanked you but you need to be escorted out right now. I'm so sorry," Ansari said.

Ansari is the son of Muslim immigrants, and wrote an opinion piece in The New York Times earlier this year titled "Why Trump Makes Me Scared for My Family."
