Billionaire businessman Donald Trump on Friday said he favors simplifying the federal tax code, but he would not abolish the IRS.
“You know there are a lot of different people and a lot of different ideas and some are good and some are bad. But the tax code at a minimum should be made a lot simpler,” Trump said told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News.
“As far as abolishing the IRS, that’s a very, very big move and it could be a dangerous move frankly,” he warned.

Despite the IRS targeting scandal, which has garnered headlines in recent weeks, Trump said that the agency is not all bad.
“In a lot of ways they’ve done a very good job over the years,” he explained. “But the fact is to abolish it you’re talking about an entirely different tax and an entirely different tax code.”
The host of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” Trump noted that the IRS scandal “just doesn’t seem to be resonating like it did a couple of weeks ago,” perhaps as a result of the plethora of scandals now facing the Obama administration.
“We’ve all seen scandals and we’ve seen some beauties but I’ve never seen so many happen at one time,” he told host Greta Van Susteren. “They’re all happening at once and people are not focusing.”
Commenting on the latest scandal involving the NSA, Trump said that he does not necessarily believe the intelligence agency was acting in the best interest of the country.
“You’re really talking about national security. Is it national security? Is it not national security? Who wants to have people looking into every time you make a call? Who’s listening? It is a really big scandal,” Trump asserted.
“And I look at the factory — virtually you could call it that their building — I’ve never seen anything like it,” he added. “I mean the buildings that they’ve built for this I’ve never seen anything. Now if it’s a matter of national security, Greta that’s a very important thing, but it can’t be —not to this extent.”
