Truckers Plan to Snarl Beltway in Anger at Congress

By    |   Monday, 07 October 2013 09:12 PM EDT

A crew of commercial truckers will stage a shutdown of their own Oct. 11 when they caravan to Washington in an attempt to block metropolitan traffic.

Members of “Truckers Ride for the Constitution” said they are seeking the arrest of congressional leaders who have "violated their oath of office" by initiating harsh standards aimed at the trucking industry, according to the website ThinkProgress.

Among the issues the commercial driver license holders are protesting are higher fuel-efficiency rules, laws curbing truck idling, and recently reported technological updates required by insurance companies.

They also are throwing Obamacare into the mix.

When they climb behind the wheel later this month, they will head for Interstate 495, the main Washington-area beltway, and circle it to prevent vehicles from entering.

The group has threatened to park on the highway if intimidated by law-enforcement officials, ThinkProgress reports.

The politicians on their most-wanted list: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, both California Democrats.

The event is scheduled to run through Oct. 13, and will coincide with the Million Vet March.
