Erin Collins, who worked 15 years as an attorney for the Internal Revenue Service, has been appointed national taxpayer advocate.
The appointment was announced by the Treasury Department and IRS on Thursday, according to The Hill. Collins had worked in the IRS chief counsel's office.
"I will work every day to be a strong and effective representative of American taxpayers," Collins said.
According to The Hill, the taxpayer advocate leads the Taxpayer Advocate Service, an independent organization within the IRS. It helps taxpayers resolve problems with the agency.
Collins will succeed Nina Olson, who retired last year.
