President Donald Trump wants to hold his own town hall meeting this Thursday in place of a second presidential debate scrapped because Trump refused to agree to a virtual debate against Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Vice President Mike Pence hinted to the event Tuesday during an appearance on SiriusXM radio.

"The American people deserve to see both candidates squared off and the president's made it very clear that he was ready to debate this week," Pence told host Julie Mason.

"I think there's plans underway for us to have a similar public town hall event Thursday night. I think Joe Biden is doing the same, but how much better would it be if they were both on the stage, both taking the tough questions from people like you."

The Commission on Presidential Debates officially canceled the debate. The commission shifted the long-scheduled debate to a virtual format in light of Trump’s COVID-19 illness, but Trump refused to participate.

Before the commission canceled the debate, Biden preemptively moved to hold his own town hall event this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC News, where voters will ask the former vice president questions.

The Trump campaign is reportedly in talks with NBC about a town hall, according to multiple sources who spoke with CNN.
