Tim Tebow: Russian Team Offers $1M Deal to Former Patriots QB

By    |   Monday, 16 September 2013 09:01 AM EDT

A Russian football team is pursuing Tim Tebow, offering the former New England Patriots quarterback $1 million for two games, a new report says.

The English-language blog Russia Behind The Headlines (RBTH) reported that the 26-year-old athlete, who was not picked up this season by the NFL, has been asked to play a few games for a Russian football tournament.

Moscow Black Storm owner Mikhail Zaltsman confirmed an offer has been extended to the Christian player, RBTH reported.

“We have offered him $1 million for two games,” Zaltsman told RBTH. “I talked with him personally and he wanted to go.”

If the former Heisman Trophy winner agrees to the deal, he would play for Black Storm in their Sept. 28 game against the Moscow Patriots. If Black Storm wins, Tebow would stay on the team to play in the tournament’s final.

The Huffington Post pointed out that details for the tournament are hard to pin down, as there doesn’t appear to be a website for the Russian football tournament, and the site for a similar league hasn’t been updated since 2012.

Even if the offer is legitimate, Russia’s league lacks the prestige that North America’s have, and playing in the tournament would do nothing for Tebow’s credibility.

Tebow, a devout Christian, has been a popular player since his college football days. But in the past few years, he has faced his share of setbacks in his athletic career.

He was a fan favorite when he played for the Denver Broncos, but endured a tumultuous season with the New York Jets and was released. He had another shot this season with the New England Patriots, but was released during preseason.

CBS Sports reported he has also been offered a contract to play the Arena Football League's LA KISS as the signal caller for the team's inaugural season beginning March 2014.
