Friday, 16 December 2011 09:26 AM EST

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A federal judge has scheduled a change of plea hearing for one of two Iraqis facing terrorism-related charges in Kentucky.

Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell signed the order setting the change of plea hearing for Waad Ramadan Alwan, who is charged in a 23-count indictment. The hearing is set for Friday afternoon in Bowling Green.

Alwan has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring to send sniper rifles, Stinger missiles and money to al-Qaida operatives in Iraq. He also is charged with conspiring to attack American soldiers in Iraq.

Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi were arrested in Bowling Green in May. Hammadi has pleaded not guilty and is not mentioned in the change of plea order.

Both have remained in federal custody.
