Suspect Featured on CNN's 'The Hunt' Killed During Arrest Attempt

Monday, 28 July 2014 07:48 PM EDT

Charles Mozdir, a suspected sex offender who had recently been featured on John Walsh's CNN series "The Hunt" died during an attempted arrest in Manhattan, in an incident that also saw two U.S. marshals and a New York City police officer wounded, CNN reports.

Police were attempting to arrest the 32-year-old on child molestation charges at the time of his death.

Authorities had been looking for Mozdir since 2012 - the same year that Mozdir was initially arrested in California, after he was accused of touching the private parts of the seven year-old son of two friends. Mozdir, who's also accused of another assault involving a young boy, posted bail after being booked into the San Diego County jail and failed to appear at his June 2012 arraignment, after which charges were filed and arrest warrants were issued.

A search of Mozdir's Coronado, Calif., home turned up evidence of child pornography on his cell phone and computers, CNN reports.

When the episode of "The Hunt" featuring Mozdir re-aired Sunday night, a tip came through that led to an address for the suspect.

According to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, the wounded marshals and police officer, who were transported to Bellevue Hospital, did not appear to sustain life-threatening injuries.
