The nation's surgeon general came to the rescue Wednesday of a sick passenger on a flight from Atlanta to Jackson, Miss. — answering a call if there was a doctor in the house with a buoyant "why yes."

Surgeon General Jerome Adams tweeted some details of the "medical emergency" Wednesday afternoon.

And Delta Airlines tweeted their gratitude right back at him.

Details about the emergency and the patient's condition were not immediately available.

Adams, an anesthesiologist, was nominated to the post in June by President Donald Trump and confirmed by Congress in August. He took office Sept. 5. As surgeon general, he oversees the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a group of more than 6,700 uniformed officer public health professionals.

According to the Clarion Ledger, Adams was flying to Jackson to visit the University of Mississippi Medical Center on Thursday to discuss the opioid epidemic and what steps the administration and federal government are taking to address it, according to UMMC officials.
