Supreme Court Student Loan Case Perilous for Both Sides

The Supreme Court must answer several specific legal questions raised by a pair of challenges to President Joe Biden's use of the HEROES Act to forgive student loan debt, and while conservatives have been bullish about the odds of the court overturning the executive order, there is potential peril on both sides of the argument.

Biden announced in August that he would fulfill a controversial campaign promise to pay off student loans. His plan would eliminate $10,000 in student debt for borrowers making less than $125,000 annually and $20,000 if they were Pell grant recipients. The price tag for taxpayers is projected to exceed $400 billion.
