President Donald Trump is likely to watch this Sunday's Super Bowl from the cushy confines of The Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, The Palm Beach Post reports.
The paper notes Trump has not played golf in two weeks, snow is forecast for the weekend in Washington, and he is slated to host a Super Bowl party at the golf club – as he did last year.
The Post noted Trump dressed more formally last year than in the years before he became president, wearing a blue suit and red tie as guests sipped ice water and tea from glasses, rather than beer from red plastic cups.
The Palm Beach Central High School band greeted the president and first lady Melania Trump, who were joined at last year’s Super Bowl party by several hundred guests, the Post reported. He reportedly left early and missed New England's improbable comeback and overtime victory.
Trump's close pal Robert Kraft owns the Patriots. Kraft donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration and gave the president a Super Bowl ring after the Patriots won last year.
But they seem to have grown more distant since last September, when Trump told a rally in Alabama – in strong language – players taking a knee during the national anthem before games to protest racism should be fired.
Soon afterward, Kraft issued a statement saying he was "deeply disappointed" by the tone of the president's comments and "political leaders could learn a lot from the lessons of teamwork and the importance of working together toward a common goal."
