Stephen Moore, who was President Donald Trump's pick to fill a seat on the Federal Reserve, said Thursday he has not been contacted by the White House regarding Kevin Hassett's position but he might "do something at the White House or in the campaign" in the future.

"Well, no, no one has," Moore said during an appearance on Fox Business when asked whether anyone from the White House had contacted him about replacing Trump's top economic adviser.

"I did speak to the president a couple weeks ago, long before we knew that Kevin Hassett was leaving. And you know, I may do something at the White House or in the campaign, but look, I already went through the Senate confirmation hassle. I don't think I'm going to do that again."

Moore, a Heritage Foundation Visiting Fellow, dropped out of contention for the Fed Reserve Board after media outlets unearthed controversial statements he made in the past about women.

Trump last month in a tweet called Moore a "great pro-growth economist and a truly fine person."

"I've asked Steve to work with me toward future economic growth in our country," Trump added.

Moore on Thursday suggested Trump should consider former President Ronald Reagan adviser Arthur Laffer to succeed Hassett.
