Expressing sorrow for the Florida school shooting, NBA celebrity Stephen Curry said the reality is "tough to digest" and hopes change will make "a better world to live in" for the next generation.
"Obviously as a parent, thinking about the world that you want your kids to grow up in and trying to protect them at all cost, that hits home — and you obviously feel for families that were affected," Curry told CNN's "The Van Jones Show."
"I think there's a lot that's been said about change that needs to happen, and hopefully that conversation actually goes somewhere and we actually make an impact for the next generation to hopefully have a better world to live in."
Curry stressed the importance of family and parenting to "spread positivity in the world."
"My job as a parent, with my wife, hopefully we have that presence with our daughters and to lay that foundation so they can spread positivity in the world," Curry told host Van Jones.
Curry, who had a public spat with President Donald Trump on declining a post-championship visit to the White House, questioned the president's leadership.
"For me, as a leader, I value what each person is and what each person brings to the table," Curry told Jones. "I think that's something that the White House could maybe change a little bit and kind of adopt. It's just everybody has a reason that they're here, has a value, has a worth to celebrate that, and I think that's important."
Curry did not want to celebrate with the president and the White House.
"If you're not going to celebrate the collective and, you know, the majority of Americans that are living in this country and that watch us play, and the fact that sports rallies all these different types of people, these different types of background together to celebrate the game – and that's why we're going to the white house to celebrate that accomplishment," Curry said. "I didn't want to go.
"And I think we could definitely use our time better when we go to D.C. during the season."
When Curry's Golden State Warriors are in Washington, D.C., to play the Capitals, in lieu of a White House visit, they are going to visit with area youth and celebrate black history month.
