New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says it was he who pulled the plug on working as a sports-talk host on New York's WFAN, denying an earlier report that the radio station was no longer interested in him.

Christie — who has frequently guest-hosted on WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" morning show and was said to be in talks to take over for departing afternoon host Mike Francesa — told NJ.com he had been asked "to do additional shows with other potential co-hosts" at the CBS Radio-owned station.

"After considering the other options that I have been presented with for post-gubernatorial employment, I declined their request to do additional shows," the governor said.

"I made station executives aware that while I would be happy to continue to fill in for Boomer [Esiason] when asked and when available, that they should no longer consider me as a candidate interested in any job at WFAN when I leave the governorship. I made that clear to them prior to leaving for my family vacation two weeks ago."

On Saturday, The New York Daily News, citing sources at WFAN said, "The suits searching for Francesa's replacement have informed the New Jersey governor his Gasbag services will not be needed."

Christie called the News report "completely incorrect."
