Police Arrest Suspect in Calif. Soldier Shooting

Monday, 26 December 2011 08:03 PM EST

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Police have arrested the suspect in a shooting that critically wounded a soldier at his Southern California homecoming party after he survived a suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan.

San Bernardino police Sgt. Gary Robertson says 19-year-old Ruben Ray Jurado turned himself in to authorities in Chino Hills on Monday.

Robertson says Jurado was then transferred to the custody of the San Bernardino police department.

Police say Jurado shot 22-year-old Christopher Sullivan at Friday night's party after getting into an argument with Sullivan's brother over football teams.

Sullivan's relatives say the Purple Heart recipient was hit twice by gunfire, which shattered his spine and left him paralyzed.

Sullivan was wounded in a suicide attack last year while serving with the 101st Infantry Division. He had been recovering in Kentucky.
