Rep. Marsha Blackburn says she is confident that the Senate will follow the House in voting to hold off on implementing two key Obamacare mandates.
"We think the Senate will join us in this and then send it to the president," the Tennessee Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" Thursday morning. "What we're saying is, 'Mr. President you're finally realizing this is not workable and people don't want it.'"
Voting mostly along party lines Wednesday, the House approved the delay of the employer mandate by a vote of 264-161. The House also voted 251-174 to extend a similar grace period to virtually all Americans who will be required to obtain coverage beginning Jan. 1, the linchpin of the law.
The Affordable Healthcare Act's mandates that force businesses with 50 or more employees to provide healthcare and the requirement for individuals to purchase healthcare – both punishable with a fine – will be postponed until 2015.
"Delaying it for employers and for individuals is the fair thing to do," Blackburn said. "Americans believe this is not a workable law and the more we know about it, the more we know it's too expensive to afford, it is too cumbersome on business, and it's too difficult on business."
