Support for Scott Walker Recall Dwindles

Tuesday, 16 August 2011 04:12 PM EDT

A new poll conducted by a Democrat-linked firm shows support slipping for recalling Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The poll shows 47 percent supporting recalling Walker from office and 50 percent opposing doing so. That was down from May, when the same firm found 50 percent supporting recalling him and 47 percent opposed.

But Walker does face some opposition against some hypothetical Democratic opponents. Those surveyed in the most recent poll favored former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold over Walker, 52 percent to 45 percent. Two percent were undecided.

The automated survey of 830 Wisconsin voters was conducted Aug. 12 to Aug. 14 by North Carolina-based Public Policy Polling. It has a margin of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

The poll showed Walker in a statistical dead heat with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, with Barrett garnering 48 percent and Walker receiving 47 percent. Walker beat Barrett in last year's election.

In another match-up, Walker had 47 percent and former U.S. Rep. Dave Obey of Wausau had 44 percent. Similarly, Walker had 46 percent and U.S. Rep. Ron Kind of La Crosse had 43 percent in their match-up.
