Dr. Scott Atlas' tumultuous tenure on the White House coronavirus task force wrote a new chapter Sunday as he apologized for doing an interview with Russia Today (RT), a state-sponsored news media outlet.
Atlas tweeted the apology Sunday:
"I recently did an interview with RT and was unaware they are a registered foreign agent. I regret doing the interview and apologize for allowing myself to be taken advantage of. I especially apologize to the national security community who is working hard to defend us."
Atlas' addition to the tasak force has been met with opposition from health officials, particularly response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx and infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci.
"I have real problems with that guy," Fauci told The Washington Post of Atlas. "He's a smart guy who's talking about things that I believe he doesn't have any real insight or knowledge or experience in. He keeps talking about things that when you dissect it out and parse it out, it doesn't make any sense."
Birx is reported to have not attended a meeting since the summer when Atlas began to gain influence with Trump at the expense of members like Birx and Dr. Fauci. Atlas has no background in epidemiology, but radiology.
