National Basketball Association player Roy Hibbert turned an Indianapolis metropolitan police officer into a social media star when he posted to Instagram and Twitter a photo of the officer giving a homeless man a pair of boots.

On Sept. 8, Hibbert posted a photo of the exchange with the caption: "Just seen an Indy police officer pull over. Go into his trunk n give a homeless guy a pair of shiny boots. #COPS"

The photo and the story went viral after the Indiana Pacers posted it to their blog.

Hibbert, who plays center for the Indiana Pacers, has more than 180,000 followers on Instagram, reports ABC11.com.

The officer is unidentified so far.

The homeless man told ABC's Indianapolis affiliate that he thought the officer was going to give him a ticket.

While he appreciated the boots, he said he had to pass them along to another homeless man because he wears a size 15, and the boots were size 10, reported Fox59.

"Most people think cops are bad people, but they aren't, they are like everyone else. Everyone has a kind heart, and you just got to let it show," said Essecks Skates, the eventual recipient of the boots.
