Roseanne Barr, fired from her role as "Roseanne" on ABC, on Tuesday said she was "disgusted" by all the support for director James Gunn, whose old tweets reveal racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, and rape-related remarks.
Disney fired Gunn last week as director of the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" because of the tweets. Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn said in a statement the tweets were indefensible, and the studio had severed ties with Gunn.
Gunn sent several tweets apologizing for the remarks, saying he was trying in the past to get laughs through shock value. A right-wing group had dug through his Twitter history to turn up the distasteful jokes from almost a decade ago.
Actress Selma Blair on Sunday urged Disney to "re-hire James Gunn" and encouraged her followers to sign a petition in support of him on Change.org. Guardians star Dave Bautista also tweeted support for Gunn, saying the director is "one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met."
ABC canceled its top-rated "Roseanne" after Barr made a racially charged crack about Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser in the Obama White House. According to NBC News, Barr's deleted tweet read: "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj"
