Romney Launches Ad Ripping Obama for ‘Broken Promises’ on Energy

The Romney campaign has released a new video ad titled “Broken Promises: Energy,” castigating President Barack Obama for his policies in that sector.

The video opens with a picture of clear, blue skies and text that reads “What Barack Obama promised.” It then shows Obama speaking at the Democratic National Convention in 2008, touting his future energy policy, The Hill reports.

“I’ll invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy: wind power and solar power, and the next generation of biofuels, an investment that will lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well and can’t be outsourced.”

The scene then shifts to grey skies with text that reads: “What President Obama delivered.” Then the ad shows text from news stories indicating Obama’s failures. The snippets read as follows:

• “The Obama administration loaned more than half a billion dollars to Solyndra, which went bankrupt and laid off 1,100 workers.” (San Francisco Chronicle)
• “The millions of green jobs Obama promised have been slow to sprout.” (Reuters)
• “Wind energy has shed 10,000 jobs since 2009.” (Reuters)

Conservatives have been after Obama’s renewable energy programs for months, noting that questionable loans have gone to questionable companies, while gasoline prices have soared and oil and natural gas production have been ignored. And, of course, few jobs have been created.

The conservative group Americans for Prosperity is beginning a $6.1 million ad campaign in eight key swing states attacking Obama’s renewable energy policy.
