Rock & Roll Museum to Unveil $6.9 Million Renovation

By    |   Monday, 12 March 2012 06:06 AM EDT

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has undergone the most extensive renovations since the landmark opened on Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor in 1995, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

A red carpet entrance is just one of the dramatic improvements that have been made as part of the $6.9 million upgrade at the museum. Other enhancements include new state-of-the-art interactive displays, improved signage, and revamped exhibits that are now realigned in a more chronological order.

“Ninety percent of the people who come to the museum love the experience,” said Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the museum. “But what don’t they like? What have we learned over the years that we can do better? We stepped back and compiled those improvements, to make it a better experience without trying to transform it into a brand-new museum."

The renovations were finished just in time for the upcoming induction festivities, which will culminate with a sold-out ceremony on April 14. The project finished on budget as well, with money coming from a $35 million capital campaign.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which runs the museum along with a local board, donated $8 million to the campaign.
