Fraudsters are capitalizing on taking advantage of people through coronavirus-related robocall scams, according to a new poll.

A recent survey from retirement community company Provision Living indicates scammers are using the health crisis to go after people’s money.

Results from the poll shows:

  • 65% of adults polled say they receive at least one robocall per day.
  • 91% of respondents say robocalls are becoming more common.
  • 20% of adults surveyed say they have received a robocall or text about coronavirus.
  • 23% of people polled say they have seen an increase in robocalls since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Of the coronavirus-related robocalls, 22% of people say the calls are about treatment claims, 18% say the calls focus on financial relief, 18% reported they were about free COVID-19 testing and 15% of adults surveyed said they received a call or text about a scammer claiming to be from the IRS to talk about their stimulus check.

In addition to virus-related scams, the most common types of robocalls are those claiming to be with the Social Security Administration (39%), the IRS (38%), travel companies (36%) and debt collectors (33%), according to the survey.

The poll surveyed 4,038 people between March 10-14 and April 28-30.
