An influential Texas pastor says businesses friendly to transgender people are an even larger threat than the Islamic State.
First Baptist Dallas pastor Robert Jeffress told "
Washington Watch with Tony Perkins," a conservative talk-radio show last week:
"It's the businesses that say to our representatives, 'Oh, don't pass laws like that, don't pass these religious freedom laws because people will interpret that as anti-gay and we'll lose business …
"The greatest threat to freedom of religion in America is not ISIS, it's the Chamber of Commerce.''
In his discussion with commentator Todd Starnes, Jeffress also commented on the Obama Administration's directive to school districts to allow students to use bathrooms in accordance with their gender identities.
"What we've got to understand is, gender identity confusion is an emotional disorder that should be treated professionally and compassionately, but it should not be exploited by social activists like those in the Obama Administration… " Jeffress said.
"The most loving thing we can do for those who suffer from gender confusion is to assure them their sex is not a mistake. Their gender is a part of God's plan for their lives. That's the most loving response."
