A female former employee of Robert De Niro’s, who he is suing over alleged embezzlement, has accused the actor of gender discrimination, The Wrap reports.
Graham Chase Robinson, who previously worked as vice president of production and finance at De Niro’s Canal Productions, filed a lawsuit for $12 million in damages on Thursday, about two months after the actor sued her for $6 million. She accuses De Niro of taking “a page out of the Bill O’Reilly playbook and treated her as though she was his ‘office wife,’” as well as insulting her, ignoring other employees harassing her, and requiring her to “scratch his back, button his shirts, fix his collars, tie his ties, and prod him awake when he was in bed.” She also claims De Niro threatened “repercussions” if she tried to leave.
“For many, the ‘good old days’ were really the bad old days. Sexism and sex stereotyping were commonplace, and a patriarchal sensibility was pervasive among the nation’s powerbrokers,” the lawsuit continues. “Robert De Niro is someone who has clung to old mores. He does not accept the idea that men should treat women as equals. He does not care that gender discrimination in the workplace violates the law. Ms. Robinson is a casualty of this attitude.”
De Niro sued Robinson in August accusing her of embezzling thousands of dollars and wasting dozens of hours watching TV during work hours. Robinson claims that De Niro filed the lawsuit to harm her reputation before she could sue him.
