President Donald Trump denied suggestions he will call to hold this summer's Republican National Convention at his Doral, Florida, resort.

Trump was threatening to pull the event out of North Carolina if the state's Democrat governor would not guarantee the party will be able to enjoy "full attendance" when it nominates him for a second term in office.

Trump tweeted Monday:

"I have zero interest in moving the Republican National Convention to Doral in Miami, as falsely reported by the Fake News @nytimes in order to stir up trouble. Ballroom is not nearly big enough & would like to stay in N.C., whose gov. doesn't even know if he can let people in?"

The president's tweet was in response to a self-described, never-Trumper identified on Twitter as only @speakout_april, who said she wanted to warn people the RNC is "already discussing downscaling the 'Republican National Convention.' Trump's just setting the stage to blame NC. As @maggieNYT reports Trump has expressed interest at having the convention at a Doral ballroom. Not quite 'full capacity' is it? #ScamArtist"

However, Haberman also responded, pointing out The New York Times and her story did not say Trump is interested in having the convention at Doral.

According to the article last week about the plans for holding a convention during the coronavirus pandemic, Trump suggested a scaled-down convention "in a hotel ballroom in Florida, given all of the health concerns and the fact that Florida is further along in reopening portions of the state." However, the article did not specify if that ballroom meant the one at Trump's resort.

He has, however, made formal plans to host the annual G-7 conference at Doral, but abandoned that idea after being slammed by critics. Last week, he said the summit will probably be at the White House because of the coronavirus pandemic.
