Donald Trump's provocative plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States has the support of a large number of voters, a new poll finds.
According to the
Rasmussen survey released Thursday, 66 percent of Republicans and 46 percent of all voters favor a temporary ban.
Trump has been under fire from both Democrats and Republicans after announcing Monday the United States should impose a complete ban on Muslims coming to the country until the government can figure out what to do about terrorist infiltrators.
But voters appear not to agree, and the latest survey findings are in line with a
Fox News poll showing the front-running GOP presidential candidate's support shot up in the early primary state of South Carolina right after he revealed the controversial plan.
Also, a
Bloomberg Politics poll finds, similar to the Rasmussen survey, that almost two-thirds of GOP primary voters in favor of the Muslim ban plan.
The Rasmussen survey, coming in the wake of a suspected terrorist attack by a jihadist married couple who killed 14 people in California last week before they were gunned down by police, also show voters are conflicted about immigration policy.
According to the poll, 59 percent think it's too easy for foreigners to legally enter the Untied States — but the same percentage feel the United States should treat all potential immigrants equally.
The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
