Rachel Canning, the New Jersey 18-year-old who sued her parents for tuition money, has accepted a $56,000 scholarship to attend Western New England University, she announced on Facebook.

"Decision made," Canning said in a March 30 post, according to NJ.com. "WNE U class of 2018 BME Major w/ 56,000$ scholarship."

Canning had previously said in court filings that she wanted to pursue biomedical engineering, to which "BME Major" refers. Tuition, fees, and room and board for a full-time undergraduate student for the 2014-2015 school year at the Springfield, Mass., university costs $46,154, which excludes health insurance, according to NJ.com.

Canning, who is set to graduate in June from Morris Catholic High School in Denville, N.J., moved out of her parents' home in October. She claimed they refused to pay her bills unless she followed house rules and broke up with her boyfriend. She sued for child support, her tuition for both private school and college, and her legal fees.

She returned home in March and dropped the suit, ending the feud with her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning.

Though Canning received some support, the public's reaction to her lawsuit was largely negative. A fake Rachel Canning Facebook page generated more than 1,000 "likes." A March 20 post mockingly asked, "Anyone have $100 I can borrow? My daddy will pay you back I promise!"

Another Facebook group, "Support Rachel Cannings Parents," also made the rounds.

In ordering the dismissal of the lawsuit, Family Division Judge Peter Bogaard encouraged everyone involved to "look forward and not look back."
