Q-Poll: Majority Says Sitting President Can Be Charged

Seventy-one percent of Americans say any president should be able to be charged with a crime while in office, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

Twenty-one percent believe presidents should not be charged with a crime until they leave office.

Here is how the survey breaks down:

• 56 percent say President Donald Trump does not respect the rule of law, while 40 percent say he does.
• 60 percent say Congress should not begin the process to impeach him, while 35 percent disagree.
• 60 percent of those polled say they do not have confidence in the way the White House is being run, compared to 38 percent who say they do.
• 48 percent say special counsel Robert Mueller is conducting a fair investigation, while 38 percent disagree.

The poll, conducted Dec. 12-17, surveyed 1,147 voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
