Rapper Kanye West on Thursday declared "I stand my ground" in support for President Donald Trump as pop star pal John Legend pleaded with the "Famous" star to "reconsider aligning yourself" with the president.
The exchange was the latest in Yazzy's week-long tweetstorm that revealed his more right-leaning opinions, according to the Daily Beast, and praise of Trump — admiration that has raised the hackles on his more liberal colleagues.
"I hope you'll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump," Legend wrote in a text message that West posted. "You're way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for."
West shot back with a bristling tweet: "You bringing up my fans or my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought."
Legend, apparently realizing his texts were getting posted on Twitter, wrote back, and joked: "Since you're posting texts, let me add that I have a new single out haha"
West then explained why he posted the Legend texts, and declared: "I respect everyone's opinion but I stand my ground."
