Planned Parenthood won't be receiving any funds from the Paycheck Protection Program.
The organization, which reported performing 345,672 abortions during the 2018 fiscal year according to the Daily Caller, will not receive money from the $670 billion coronavirus relief funds, which is to be used to help struggling small businesses.
A “senior administration official” told the Daily Signal, “President Trump is committed to ensuring Paycheck Protection Program money is used for saving jobs at small businesses, not getting the government into the business of funding abortion.
"While not all Americans share President Trump’s pro-life beliefs, there is broad bipartisan support for the idea that American taxpayers should not have to fund abortion.”
The National Review noted that loans will be forgiven under the PPP to businesses which employ 500 or fewer people, as long as they retain most of their employees. Since Planned Parenthood nationally employs 16,000 people, it would not qualify for funding anyway.
The official who spoke to the Daily Signal said “The SB in SBA is for ‘Small Business,’ so SBA has regulations called ‘affiliation rules’ to define when small employers might be so closely affiliated with a parent organization that they should be considered one large employer.”
Planned Parenthood consists of 159 medical and non-medical affiliates, which operate over 600 health clinics in the U.S.
